Guyana Flood Information: Home
Flooding started on the coastal areas of Guyana, South America on January 15th, 2005 and residents continue to face major problems. Over 1/3 of Guyana's population of ~700,000 have been affected by these floods that have claimed 34 lives so far (21 due to leptospirosis). Residents have lost personal belongings, livestock, and crops and warnings remain on disease outbreaks like gastro and dengue.

Jouvay.com raised $3000US for The Alicea Foundation's flood relief efforts. The organization continues to assist those affected by the floods, mothers with babies and persons with disabilities in particular. On June 1st, 2005 ther website www.aliceafoundation.org launched. Check it out. University of Guyana establishes Flood Relief Fund. Over 252 Million Guyana dollars needed to assist in replacing of furniture, computers, books and to affect repairs. During the 2005 floods Jouvay Ventures L.L.C. donated funds raised through this site to the Alicea Foundation Inc. (A Not For Profit Company registered 11th November, 1997. Companies Act of Guyana 4279 filed by Cameron & Shepherd Attorneys-at-Law 2 Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown). While we donated the monies raised here to the Alicea Foundation, we also want to publicise the fact that there are many other groups doing relief effort in Guyana and fundraising abroad. We post their information here, including information on how to donate to any of them, so that you can make an informed decision to try to get the monies and goods to Guyana.
